Inside EVs released statistics showing that almost 200,000 electric vehicles sold out in the US in 2017. This was an increase from 199,826 sold in 2016. EVs alone had 158,614 sold vehicles in 2017. Since 2009 there have been negative deviations in the sales each year. That is so impressive if 2017 sales are something to go by. Still above 17 million new ordinary cars sold out in 2017. The electric vehicles have a lot to do to win the faith of the locals.
Tesla is still the most preferred brand in the market. Model S which is in its fifth year of sales remains the country’s best-selling EV. With its price going at $74,500, the brand sold 27,060. The Model X SUV also recorded good sales selling more than 21,000. That makes it the 3rd best-selling EV. On 16th January 2018, Tesla reported that Model 3 production will still be lower. This will be much lower than it had been reported by Elon Musk for half a year. There was a target of producing 5,000 Model 3s per week by the end of 2017. However, that seemed unattainable until the 2nd quarter of 2018.
Chevrolet’s Bolt EV was the second in the chart. The brand realized over 23,000 sales in 2017. This was recommendable since it started selling in all the states halfway through 2017. The brand is much affordable than the Tesla BEV brands like Model X, Model S and Model 3s. GM comes at the second place if Volt and Bolt EV sales are added together. The Volt sold lesser units compared to the same period in 2016. This is due to its electric BEV stableness.
Toyota’s Prius Prime was at the fourth position with less than 21,000 in 2017. The Nissan Leaf was working on its last year in the market making it not to sale much. The model is being replaced by a Long-Ranger Leaf. The model is cheaper and better compared to the Nissan Leaf. The company didn’t succeed in bringing the Nissan USA 2018 Leaf to the market on time. None of the PHEV or BEV managed to sell more than 10,000 in 2017. Mitsubishi MiEV sold six units in 2017, and the last one was in August 2017. Despite the fear that EV might be banned in the US there is still hope that 2018 will be a better year for the company.
